Salt Lake County Completed

On Saturday Cody completed yet another hike, Salt Lake County's highest Peak, called American Fork Twin Peaks elevation at 11,489 feet.

Here he is on the summit with friends Dallin and Aaron.

And of course Cody couldn't resist taking a picture with him hanging off of a cliff!

They had to hike down this ridge to get back to the trail.

You're killing me, Smalls. These are s'mores stuff. Okay, pay attention. First you take the graham. You stick the chocolate on the graham. Then you roast the 'mallow. When the 'mallow's flaming, you stick it on the chocolate. Then you cover it with the other end. Then you stuff. Kind of messy, but good. Try some."

Saturday night Cody got this great idea to make s'mores in the backyard! He had made a firepit barrel thing for scouts so it was perfect to use, and the kids loved it.





Since Jake is, well Jake, he was confined to his stroller, for obvious reasons. He did love eating graham crackers and pieces of the marshmellows.

Anna loved eating them, well, the first bite, then she'd just want to roast the marshmellows and watch them catch on fire. But thats my favorite part too!

Jake actually did pretty good sitting there; he lasted about 20 minutes, which was way more than I expected. Maybe it had something to do with me handing him crackers every 5 seconds so he'd be content...

This was as close to the fire that she would get. Since she didn't quite understand that in order to make a nicely toasted marshmellow you have to rotate it, her marshmellows were only brown on one side.

Get the hose and spray them down! They were pretty messy, but Jake loved being sprayed! He would sit and laugh at it and then just stand there until Cody sprayed him again. It probably felt good though because it was really hot on Saturday.

Yep, I made one too, well I just catch the marshmellows on fire and then eat them. That is my idea of a s'more!

Rough Landing

I have to share what happened the other night. I am walking upstairs after I got Anna tucked into bed and as I was about half way up the stairs I hear this THUD from upstairs. Cody was watching TV, Jake was already in bed, so I'm thinking, what was that?! I ask Cody, did you hear that? And of course he says, hear what? The thought had crossed my mind that Jake had climbed out of his crib, but I didn't hear any crying and usually that will follow a sound like the one I heard. So I go check on him, just in case, and sure enough he had fallen out of his crib and was getting back up and just starting to cry. Luckily, no injuries surprisingly. He's so little that sometimes I forget how much he can really do! I'd been thinking the last few days that we need to lower the crib another notch, but didn't get to it in time, obviously. Just another lesson to me that boys are so much more different than girls! Anna didn't even ATTEMPT to climb out of the crib until after she was 2 years old, and that was about a month before she got her toddler bed. Jake does something at least 5 times a day to surprise me. I guess that's good though, because he keeps me one step ahead, with the exception of the other night.

Practice make perfect

Anna can finally ride her bike - meaning she can pedal AND turn all at the same time!! It took her awhile to get the whole coordination thing down (about 3 months I'd say), but once she got it she's taken off. We try to go for rides around the block at least once a day so she can keep at it. The only problem is there is a slight hill on the sidewalk at one point. I'll just say she learned VERY quickly how to use the brakes instead of just letting go or putting her feet down. Yeah, very quickly. But now she's a pro, we just need a helmet before the Cody genes in her take over.

Mt. Nebo Hike

Cody the hiker king...Saturday he summited Mt. Nebo, the highest peak in Utah County at elevation 11,928 feet. Cody has a goal to summit all of Utah's counties highest peaks and he's got a pretty good list of ones he's completed so far. From this picture, it looks like it was a good day for hiking.

As you can see, there is still some snow on this mountain as well, but not nearly as much as the last hike. At least this hike you can see the trail...
